Ghana Premier League side Accra Hearts of Oak have parted way with their manager Kim Grant, the club has announced.
The
Phobians announced the decision on their Twitter handle on Wednesday afternoon
after a marathon meeting between the coach and the board.
The
British-trained gaffer who had been the head coach of the side for over a year
has been shown the exit after a meeting with the board of the club nearly ended
in blows on Tuesday evening.
A confirmed report, four days to the start of the Ghana Premier League that Kim Grant
was facing the sack after a technical meeting which metamorphosed into a board
meeting saw top board member Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe furiously ordering Grant
to step aside as head coach, which was unanimously accepted by the rest of the
board members.
Kim was asked to name Edward Nii Odoom as his
assistant coach ahead of the upcoming season to serve as a cover up for him
while he awaits his License A certificate from UEFA.
According
to the GFA’s Club Licensing Board, Kim Grant will not be allowed to handle the
team since his UEFA License A certificate is yet to arrive, with reports saying
it will be arriving in February.
And
with Nii Odoom having the License A certificate, the board was looking at
naming him as Kim Grant’s deputy so both coaches can be on the bench per the
licensing regulations.
But
Kim is said to have stepped on the balls of the board members, particularly Dr.
Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe when he rejected Nii Odoom and requested for an expatriate
assistant.
The
anger of the board members hit the roof when Kim proposed a $2500 salary for
the expatriate assistant, hanging the payment on the neck of the club.
The
former Elmina Sharks technical director has therefore been asked to step aside
for Edward Nii Odoom to take over the club while the club look for a
substantive manager soon.
Nii
Odoom will, therefore, handle the training session of the team from Wednesday
while the board look around for another manager.
The
defeat in their league opener to Berekum Chelsea at the Accra Sports Stadium
further worsened the relationship between Grant and the board forcing his sack
with just 5 days to their titanic clash with Medeama SC in Tarkwah.
Deputy
trainer Edward Nii Odoom has been announced as his replacement ahead of
Sunday’s clash against Medeama SC.
