Bayern
Munich began the defence of their Champions League with a 4-0 thrashing of
Atletico Madrid at the Allianz Arena.
Two
goals were scored in each half of the match as the defending champions recorded
a comfortable win over last season's last 16 competitors.
Kingsley
Coman scored a brace while Leon Goretzka and Corentin Tolisso grabbed a goal
each in the match.
Bayern
Munich vs Atletico Madrid: Coman scores brace in Bavarians 4-0 win.
Bayern
were rewarded for their persistence after Coman brilliantly executed a perfect
delivery from Josua Kimmich to make it 1-0 in the 28th minute.
The
Bavarians scored even a better second goal after goalscorer Coman provided a
beautiful cross to Goretzka who made it 2-0 with an instinctive finish four
minutes before half time. A
minute after the break, Atletico thought they
had reduced the deficit after Joao Felix's deflected shot beat Manuel Neuer on
goal but Luis Suarez was spotted in an offside position as the goal did not
stand.
Tolisso's
goal sealed the deal with an outrageous strike from 25 yards as he unleashed a
belter that beat Jan Oblak in goal to make it 3-0 in the 66th minute.
Coman
produced a brilliant individual effort to score Bayern's fourth as finished off
an assist from Thomas Mueller to make it 4-0.
Bayern
continued from where they stopped last season as they top Group A as Lokomotiv Moscow
and Redbull Salzburg settled for a 2-2 draw in the other group match.
Ronaldo
currently holds the record for scoring in nine consecutive opening Champions
League matches and Lewandoski can go one better than the Portuguese if he finds
the back of the net.
