Lionel Messi: Barcelona Boss Koeman Admits Argentine Isn't At His Best Yet

Lionel Messi is expected to lead the Barcelona squad against Ferencvarosi at Camp Nou - The Argentine has scored just once in four matches so far this season - Ronald Koeman is confident the 33-year-old will return to his best soon.

Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman believes Lionel Messi will return to his best soon in spite of his slow start this campaign. The 33-year-old has scored just one goal and two assists in four Spanish League appearances this season. He was, however, unable to stop the Catalans from suffering their first defeat this term after losing 1-0 to Getafe last weekend.

The Argentine tried forcing his way out of the Nou Camp this summer after complaining about so many irregularities in the club.

According to Daily Mail, Koeman said Messi is not at his very best for now but the handler insisted the attacker is happy at the club.

Maybe, at the moment, Messi's performances could be better. But he is happy, he is working hard and he wants to be the captain. I don't have a single complaint.

"He has also had some bad luck. He hit the post (in a 1-0 loss to Getafe on Saturday) and on another day that goes in.

"I don't have any doubts about his performances and we're going to see him (at his best) in the upcoming games, I'm sure.

" Messi's current deal with the Blaugrana expires in the summer of 2021 and Manchester City are on his trail.

Barcelona kick off their Champions League campaign Ferencvarosi TC at the Nou Camp on Tuesday, October 20.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner was close to leaving the Catalans earlier in the summer with Manchester City and a few other clubs ready to welcome him. Though, the Argentine has pushed that experience behind and focus on helping them compete for titles this campaign.
