The Electoral
Commission (EC) is expected to hold a Press conference later today to give
updates on the December 07, general elections.
The
much-anticipated presser was initially billed for Monday but was rescheduled to
today.
“Sincere
apologies to everyone, the presser today has been rescheduled to tomorrow. More
details will be communicated soon” the EC posted on its Facebook page.
It’s expected
that the impending Press conference will address reports of a google drive link
that emerged on Friday, November 20, which displayed details of the over
17,029,981 registered voters.
Critics have
berated the Election Management Body(EMB) and described the move as “very
irresponsible” because the details of each voter have been made available for
anyone who has ulterior motives.
There has been
no explanation for the decision but the EC is likely to respond to the matter
in its press conference expected in the next few hours.
Meanwhile,
Electoral materials for the conduct of the December 7 presidential and
parliamentary elections were dispatched over the weekend.
During the sorting process in the Eastern region for instance
upon arrival, some ballot Papers with duplicate serial numbers were detected.
These were
detected during sorting of Presidential and Parliamentary ballot papers for
Akuapem South Constituency in the Eastern Region.
About 50
Presidential ballot booklets with a total of 500 ballot Papers were detected to
have duplicate serial numbers, while two booklets for the Parliamentary
election with 20 ballot papers had duplicate serial numbers.
EC officials
refused to speak to the issue on record but explained briefly that, the parties
agreed to decouple the duplicates by setting aside 25 of the booklets
containing 250 ballot papers for the remaining 250 ballot papers to be used.
