A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Karaga
Constituency has gunned down a colleague at Yung in the Karaga district of the
Northern Region.
The suspect who is said to be on
the run according to police sources had gone to the community with a tricycle
to return some canopies and chairs that were used for an event.
While on the way, the deceased
spotted a pistol he had concealed on the side of his trouser and wanted to have
a feel of it but in the process of removing the arm, it discharged hitting the
other at close range.
He was rushed to the Yung Clinic
and later to Karaga Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
This comes barely a fortnight
after some 6 persons were butchered at Sung, Karaga and Yung all in the Karaga
District of the Northern Region after confusion broke out at a National
Democratic Congress (NDC) rally.
The victims identified as
Zakaria Aminu, Sulemana Musah, Abdulai Aminu, Haruna Abdulai, Musah Abdul Razak
and Tia Abdul Rahman. Who suffered machete wounds are currently at the Karaga
Hospital receiving treatment.

reported about the incident that is said to have sparked tension in the area
already bedeviled with chieftaincy controversy.
Karaga District Police Commander ASP Thomas Tulasi revealed
that an official complaint has been lodged with his outfit and statements from
some of the victims have been taken.

rally was held at Sung which is a stronghold of the governing NPP where several
persons were bused to the community amidst the display by motor riders clad in
NDC t-shirts.
The Motor riders believed to be
members of the NDC in a convoy, reportedly rode to an NPP pavilion sparking the
confusion leading to the reprisal attacks after a known NPP member questioned
the rationale behind their action.
This was said to have escalated
the tension in the area with targeted persons attacked in their homes and left
with fractures among other injuries.
