of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana sighted buying Waakye for
Ghc60 from a popular food vendor, Aunty Muni Waakye
and paying using QR Code goes viral.
Recall that the
international business consultant launched the Ghana Universal Quick Response
(QR) and Proxy Pay system in Accra somewhat March 25, 2020.
During the App
launching, Bawumia noted that;
“The Universal QR CODE which makes it possible for all merchants,
service providers and institutions to receive payments from bank accounts,
ezwich accounts, mobile money wallets or internationally issued visa or
MasterCards instantly”
“Any merchant can have a universal QR CODE: e.g. chop bars, food vendors, barbers, carpenters or masons, musicians, shoe shine boys, khebab or ‘Kofi brokeman’ sellers, market traders, trotros, taxis, churches, mosques, schools, funeral committees, wedding organizers etc.”.
To prove to Ghanaians that the App he introduced is more important in our daily activities, he walked to a popular Waakye seller, Aunty Muni and bought from her and paid with the QR Code.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia bought Waakye for Ghc60 and paid using the QR Code this morning as he was surrounded by a massive crowd.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia could be heard saying;
“It is a safe method of transactions especially
among traders that will help save their money from being stolen etc.”
