Respect My Vote Movement, Pro- NDC group, has
written to about countries and their government officials not to recognize
President-elect Nana Akuffo Addo as president of Ghana following the irregularities
that had characterized the recent parliamentary and presidential polls.
The group petitioned
organizations and governments such as the European Union, the United States of
America, the United Kingdom, Canada, the Republic of Germany, amongst others.
Respect My Vote Movement also petitioned the United Nations, The World Bank, and
the International Monetary Fund.
The movement has also asked the
international government agencies to withhold all intended supports to Ghana
and has also asked them to revoke all agreements signed with Ghana until the
election dispute has been resolved.
The group contends that the
Electoral Commission’s declaration of results in the just-ended elections
constitutes a subversion of the will of the people, claiming that the results
announced does not represent the true will of the masses, whom the group believes,
voted for their candidate, Mr. John Mahama.
The group also reported the Akufo-Addo government for
the use of brute force in brutalizing ordinary citizens during the elections as
part of the alleged plans to rig the polls leading to the death of 7 innocent
unarmed civilians.
According to the group, the systematic use of the
police and the judiciary by the Akufo-Addo government as objects of oppression
is an abuse of fundamental human rights and freedoms.
The group alleged that the Electoral Commission used all
means possible to deprive the National Democratic Congress of their deserved
victory. It may be recalled that the Electoral Commission declared the results
of the 2020 Presidential Election on 9th December and subsequently changed the
results on the 10th and 15th of the same month. This action by the EC has
raised so many questions amongst the opposition side who seem not to fathom the
intentions of the EC and has called for a recollation of some of the
constituencies they believe they won but the NPP’s candidate was declared
winner instead.
