It emerged that there are fear
and panic within the ranks and files of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The phenomenon, this online news
portal gathered has followed the recent preparation of the National Democratic
Congress (NDC) to the Supreme Court to challenge the just ended 2020
presidential election result being declared by the Electoral Commission (EC) of
Ghana.
This means the NDC would meet
its deadline of just four days left for the NDCN to legally hit the Supreme
Court with its petition to challenge the results of the 2020 election.
The latest development, as
alleged by some party executives is that the Audit Team conducting the forensic
audit on the electoral pink sheets have completed their work.
Video circulating on social
media and across various platforms of some NDC sympathizers tell of a rather
exciting mood the team had enjoyed earlier this evening at the party’s
headquarters when they wrapped up their schedule for the mega task.
Since the the Electoral
Commission declared the results of the 2020 election, the NDC have had a bundle
of issues with it, and even suggested they won the election by a greater
margin.
To them, the entire process was
fraught with fraud and the flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama had threatened to
expose the election management body on this. But then, they argued that they
better prepare their comprehensive evidence before they proceed to court.
The emphasis was to have a forensic audit conducted in the
thousands of results sheets so the party leadership could determine the next
action to be taken.
Should they weight much of a
stronger case with the evidence, it must be expected that within the next few
days left, the NDC shall file a petition and prove its electoral fraud and
irregularities allegation in court.
On the other hand should they
realise their chances are slim, they might probably concede defeat. But from
the video, it’s evident they are convinced they believe they have a clean shot
to take with the evidence gathered. This week, the party had held a series of
press conferences to detail Ghanaians on some anomalies spotted in some results
sheets in selected polling stations and Constituency collated results or
summary sheets.
“As we await a final action by
the NDC, most Ghanaians especially, and especially the ruling New Patriotic
Party. and the government is working at a transition for next year on January 7
2020. The 2012 election petition took the nation some close to nine months of
electoral dispute in court. This time round, the Chief Justice had hinted that
they have reformed the court system to enable them determine any petition
briugh before it in a month and a half period.
Should the NDC proceed to the
court, this would be the second election petition ever heard in the apex court
in the country’s politcal history.
