National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP)
Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has revealed that General Secretary of the New
Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu, who had said that the NDC will not get even
Committee Chairmanship or Ranking Positions in Parliament, literally begged the
NDC for Deputy Speakership Positions after the NDC’s Alban Kingsford Sumana
Bagbin got elected as Speaker of Parliament.
Mr Dafeamekpor, a member of the
Legal Team of the NDC, has therefore advised that people respect one another
for the sake of posterity.
“I never dreamt that John Boadu
will ever beg the NDC to give them one of the Deputy Speakership positions. He
further claimed on Joy News that NDC won’t even get Committee Chairmanship and
Ranking positions in Parliament. People, let’s respect one another for there’s
tomorrow,” he tweeted.
Prior to the election of the
Speaker of Parliament, John Boadu had said that even though both the NDC and
NPP had the same number of Parliamentarians elect, the NPP was in the majority
because the only independent Parliamentarian had pledged to vote with the NPP
MPs. He then went on to say that the NPP candidate for Speakership position,
Prof Mike Oquaye was definitely going to be elected as Speaker and the NDC may
be denied even Committee Chairmanship or Ranking member positions.
Surprisingly, the NDC candidate
for the position, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, got elected as Speaker tilting
the odds against the NPP. The NPP then had to lobby to get its MP, Joe Osei
Owusu nominated as First Deputy Speaker and the independent MP for Fomena,
Andrews Asiamah, nominated as Second Deputy Speaker.
Leadership of the NPP has been criticised for defeat
of Prof Mike Oquaye in the Speakership Election.
