One of the eight seats in parliament being challenged
by the New Patriotic Party is the Jomoro Electorate.
According to the current party
deputy general secretary, Nana Obiri Boahen, the party has brought an action before
the Sekondi High Court seeking to prohibit the NDC’s Dorcas Afo Toffey from becoming a Parliamentarian.
The position of the NPP is based
on two factors that it claims are necessary for them to grant their appeals.
In an interview, Obiri Boahen told Neat FM that the MP’s citizenship is
also an issue, apart from election fraud that benefited Dorcas Afo Toffey in
the elections.
He announced that Afo Toffey has
documentation that allow her to be a citizen of the United States of America
and Côte D’ivoire, besides to being Ghanaian.
“There were discrepancies in the
contest for Jomoro. In addition, the lady has Ivorian, U.S. and Ghanaian
citizenship as well,” he said on Neat FM.
Obiri Boahen said that a
committee of attorneys was designated to each of the eight cases by the party,
with lawyer Frank Davies as the head of the team.
We have a legal team led by Frank Davies, who is part of the
presidential team as well. I’m in charge of the investigation of Banda, so I
can talk about that,’ he said.
Meanwhile, in separate High
Courts, the NDC too has filed petitions questioning eight of the seats.
Hohoe, Techiman South,
Essikado-Ketan, Tema West, Tarkwa Nsuaem, Zabzugu, Sefwi Wiawso and Tano South
form the subsections.
