The Chief Whip of the New
Patriotic Party (NPP) in Parliament, Hon. Frank Annoh Dompreh has made a
shocking revelation as he claimed that his party refused to restrain the
‘injuncted’ Member of Parliament of the Assin North constituency, Hon. James
Gyakye Quayson from casting his vote in the Speaker’s Parliament House election
last Thursday because the lives of his party members were threatened.
In his narrating of the ordeal
that characterized the election of the opposition National Democratic Congress’
(NDC) Alban Sumana Bagbin as Speaker of the 8th Parliament on Accra-based Asempa
Fm’s ‘Ekosiisen program’ monitored by mynewsghana, the Nsawam-Adoagyiri
Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) explained that the NDC MPs threatened to
spill blood in the house if they were not allowed to have their way despite an
earlier pronouncement made by the Clerk, Mr. Cyrill Nsiah baring the Assin
North MP from partaking in the proceedings of the house.
However, he warned that in the
days ahead, particularly on Friday when the house resumes its sitting, his
peers will not display such softness as the NDC has no monopoly on aggression.
They threatened to spill blood in the house at the clerk’s chamber when we went there. OB I can’t lie here. I cross-checked my facts before coming here. I was personally hit in my stomach with a heavy blow in the midst of the chaos. The cameras couldn’t capture some of the scenes so you couldn’t witness the height of violence that was perpetrated on us but since we had to swear in the President later, we gloss over some of these things but I can tell you that on Friday when we resume, we in the majority will this time claim our rightful position in the sitting arrangement and we expect the speaker to do the right thing.
