A second witness of the Petitioner in the 2020 election petition Dr. Kpesssah Whyte has
indicated that he never spoke to the Chairperson of the second respondent Jean
Mensa.
Dr. Kpessah Whyte said while working in the Electoral
Commission’s strong room on December 9 together with his colleague Rojo
Mettle-Nunoo said he was instructed by the Commission’s chairperson to go
and seek a conference with the 2020 NDC flagbearer, John Mahama.
However, Dr. Kpessah Whyte indicated
that he did not speak directly to the EC’s Chairperson but rather his colleague
told him the instruction given by the Commission’s Chairperson.
He said that Jean Menah
instructed them to seek a conference with their flagbearer on some
irregularities they had identified.
And she did also indicate that
the reason she was asking us to do so is for all the stakeholders including the
NPP, Peace Council and others could be invited to ensure that we had a credible
result before the announcement of the winner is made,” he said.
When asked whether leaving
the EC’s strongroom was against the work they had been sent by the
petitioner he said “That is not true because we were working in furtherance of
making sure that the results to be declared by the First Respondent reflects
and represent the will of the people and if she is asking us to consult with
the petitioner is part of how we could get there, we were ready to do that”.
