Mr. Anthony Akoto Ampaw who is the lawyer for the second respondent in the 2020 presidential election petition hearing told the Supreme Court of Justice today, that former President John Dramani Mahama (petitioner) cannot force them to elect a witness to appear in the witness box. He made this statement during the legal arguments on a move by the respondents not to testify in the case.
Lawyer Akoto Ampaw also stated
that Former President John Dramani Mahama of the biggest opposition National
Democratic Congress (NDC) has adduced evidence and dismissed his case. He said
they have taken the position that in their assessment, they’ve not discharged
the burden of producing evidence and burden of proof and so, therefore, they
will not give further evidence and the Supreme Court will determine the case on
the evidence before it. In his own words; they are entitled not to adduce any
evidence or call any witness.
Mr. Justin Amenuvor also told the Supreme Court
that given the evidence of Former President John Dramani Mahama’s witnesses who
were cross-examined in the case, they do not want to lead any further evidence.
