The Supreme Court has announced that it will deliver the final
judgment for the 2020 election petition on March 4.
This was announced at February
22 sitting of the ongoing petition by the Chair of the seven Supreme Court
Judges sitting on the case Chief Justice (CJ) Kwasi Anin Yeboah.
He made this announcement after
reading a ruling that dismissed a petition by the petitioner to reopen his
case.
“The application under review was dismissed because it was
not based on known law or rules of practice. We dismiss the instant application
and we hold it without merit”, Chief Justice Anin Yeboah read out in court.
John Dramani Mahama who is the petitioner in the 2020
election petition is in court to seek a rerun of the 2020 elections.
According to him, per their estimation, no political party
won the election and therefore there is the need for rerun of the election.
He also seeks the court to declare the declaration by
Chairperson of the Electoral Commission as illegal and contrary to the
Constitution of Ghana.
