Supreme Court ‘Warns’ Oppong Nkrumah, Amenuvor And Marietta Brew – More Details

The hearing of the petition filed by Mr. Mahama on the disputed election is still ongoing and Ghanaians have seen a myriad of legal tussle between the Lawyers of the factions. The leader and flagbearer of the opposition NDC in the just ended elections has raised concerns about the outcome of the elections and has alleged that the results was rigged in favor of NPP’s Nana Akuffo Addo.

Today, February 8, 2021 marking the Day 11, third witness for Mahama mounted the witness box to testify on behalf of the Petitioner. Ghanaians saw another hearing as the Counsels of the 1st and 2nd Respondents cross-examined the 3rd witness of Mahama.

One of the issues that took centre stage was the warning from the Chief Justice to some members of the legal team who resort to granting interviews after Court’s proceedings. According to Chief Justice Annin Yeboah, some after Court commentaries seek to contradicts, undermine and prejudice the proceedings. He strongly warned Honourable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Ms. Marietta Brew and Justin Amenuvor who is the lead Counsel for the 1st witness. The 9-Panel has officially banned them from making commentaries or granting interviews after hearings.

The Chief Justice said; “Attention of the bench has been drawn to the fact that immediately after proceedings, Counsels from both sides resort to granting interviews to the media and at times some of them keep on twisting the facts and seek to even prejudice whatever the proceedings were.”

“Marietta Brew, Oppong Nkrumah and Amenuvor are all guilty. Oppong Nkrumah, you are guilty because you were at Newsfile and we think since you gw e been announced it is unacceptable.”

In a related development, the Court will continue the proceedings tomorrow, February 9, 2021 as announced by the Chief Justice.
