President Akufo-Addo has among others, extended a hand of
appreciation to Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin and
Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu for the “expeditious and firm manner” with which
they scrutinized and approved his ministerial nominees, MyNewsGh.com reports.
The President said he was
hopeful the approval heralds the start of good cooperation between the
Executive and the Legislature for the rest of his new four year term as
President.
“Yesterday, 4th March, and today, 5th March, I have received communication from the
Speaker … about the strong bipartisan endorsement”, Akufo-Addo said.
President Akufo-Addo mentioned
that Ebenezer Kojo Kum Minister for Chieftaincy and Ken Ofori-Atta Minister of
Finance were not sworn in at the time because the former was indisposed and the
latter was yet to be vetted as he was responding well to treatment in the
United States.
Beyond the Speaker and Minority
Leader, Akufo-Addo also thanked the Majority leader and all members of
parliament for their role in the approval.
“I must express my sincere gratitude to Parliament,
that is to the Rt Honourable Speaker, to the Honourable Chairperson and the
Members of the Appointment Committee, the honourable Majority and Minority
Leaders and to all honourable members of both sides of the House my gratitude
for the expeditious and firm manner with which the scrutiny of my ministers was
carried out” he said.
Constituting government ahead of
the 64th anniversary was a great
feat, Akufo-Addo said and expressed gratitude to parliament for making it
possible despite the ravages of Covid-19.
