MATCH REPORT: Asante Kotoko Suffer First Away Defeat To 'Struggling' Elmina Sharks

A second-half strike from Alhaji Mustapha ended the winless run of Elmina Sharks in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.

Asante Kotoko suffered their first away defeat to Elmina Sharks in their match-week 17 encounter at the Nduom Sports Stadium on Friday evening.

Stop-gap coach Odartey Lamptey recorded a victory on his debut in the dug-out of Elmina Sharks after the club had parted ways with Yaw Acheampong last week.

The first department of the game looked balanced as both sides had opportunities to break the deadlock but their efforts went furtile.

In-form Kwame Opoku came close to net the opener for the Porcupine Warriors on the 22nd minute but his strike went off target.

Trio Alhaji Mustapha, Baba Sule and Bernard Boateng kept the backline of Asante Kotoko backline unrest as the first half ended in a scoreless draw.

Back from the break, the home side continued to launch fearsome attacks on Asante Kotoko which earned them the only goal after ten minute.

On the 55th minute, Alhaji Mustapha ensured Elmina Sharks all the needed points with his brilliant finish which ended their winless run after six matches.

Asante Kotoko were poised to level the score with the minutes left for the final whistle to be blown as Naby Keita and Patrick Asmah were introduced as replacement for Fabio Gama and Emmanuel Sarkodie respectively.

Asante Kotoko failed to get the equaliser with the chances and set-pieces awarded to them as the match ended in a 1-0 win in favor of Elmina Sharks.
