Thomas Tuchel discovers Chelsea’s own Kevin
De Bruyne and Bruno Fernandes after key decision
The Chelsea midfielder has come in for a lot of praise from
managers, former players and pundits alike in recent weeks, and statistics show
the 22-year-old is having a good season
Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is having a
season to remember.
The 22-year-old has already clocked up 39 appearances across all
competitions thus far, weighing in with five Premier League goals – including
the winner against Liverpool at the beginning of the month.
Perhaps his proudest moment came in the FA Cup fourth-round
win over Luton Town when he captained Chelsea for the first time in a 3-1
victory.
Mount would go on to do the same in
last weekend’s quarter-final win over Sheffield United and has been tipped by
John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole as a future captain at both club and
international level.
Furthermore, the likes of Roy Keane, Graeme Souness and
Micah Richards have all praised Mount at one point this season, as did England
manager Gareth Southgate after the 5-0 win over San Marino on Thursday night.
“He’s a top player,” the Three Lions
boss said in his post-match press conference. “Not only his work with the ball,
but the way he pressed when we lost it, the way he recovered and won the ball
back on the rare occasion San Marino managed to play through.
“His weight of pass was excellent and his all-round game is
just very good.
“So, I was just struck last night when he was talking to you
guys (in the media) how mature he was in that instance.
“But we’ve got so many good young players.”
And on an even more positive note, statistics show that the
midfielder has proven to be one of the most effective players in the Premier
League this season.
As spotted by fans on Reddit, Mount has a 55% crossing
accuracy in the Premier League this season – the best success rate of any
player across the top flight of English football.
That is more than Manchester United’s
Bruno Fernandes and Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne – both with 35% – but just 1%
more than Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend.

Given the importance of both Fernandes and De Bruyne to their respective teams,
Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has effectively discovered his own player who
is just as crucial when his side is on the attack.
Interestingly, this has happened after the German tactician
recalled Mount to his starting XI after naming him among the substitutes for
his first game in charge.
New Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel will surely be looking
to strengthen the squad he was given when he took over from Frank Lampard and
there have already been a number of top players linked with a move, including
Erling Haaland.
The striker is thought to be the Blues’
number on transfer priority.

As expected, this statistic garnered a big response from
some Chelsea fans.

get rid of De Bruyne.”
Likeabhas said: “Helps that he probably makes less number of
crosses, but legit his crosses are usually very dangerous. Less variety than
James, but still very excellent.”

player.”
