UEFA has
threatened to ban clubs from playing in any domestic,
European, or world level competitions if they agree to take part in a breakaway
European Super League — and Chelsea are one of the teams involved in the
plans, according to
Sky Sports.
The Sky
Sport report mentioned that six English clubs are involved in the plans,
including Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal.
Other
European giants, such as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus, have also
reportedly agreed to take part in the plans.
Amid the
reports about a planned announcement of the European Super League, UEFA, along
with the English FA, Premier League, Spanish FA (RFEF), La Liga, Italian FA
(FIGC) and Lega Serie A, have released a joint statement on Sunday.
“We wish
to reiterate that we will remain united in our efforts to stop this cynical
project — a project that is founded on the self-interest of a few clubs at a
time when society needs solidarity more than ever,” the official statement
reads.
“We will
consider all measures available to us, at all levels, both judicial and
sporting in order to prevent this happening.
“As
previously announced by FIFA and the six Federations, the clubs concerned will
be banned from playing in any other competition at domestic, European or world
level, and their players could be denied the opportunity to represent their
national teams.”
