Frank Lampard made a
number of marquee signings last summer who have fallen out of favour under
Thomas Tuchel.
Thomas Tuchel may be looking to build his own squad
at Chelsea when the summer transfer window opens and that could spell
further trouble for Hakim Ziyech. Frank Lampard was replaced by Tuchel back in
January after struggling to get his new-look side firing on all cylinders.
Summer signings such as Timo Werner and Kai Havertz were
struggling for form and had even fallen out of favour under the former England
international.
Ziyech was a favourite under Lampard, but injuries restricted
his minutes in the first half of the season.
But
the 28-year-old was left out of the side for Tuchel’s first four Premier League
games in charge.
Ziyech
has started just four top flight matches under the German coach since with the
likes of Christian Pulisic, Werner and Havertz being preferred.
Frank Lampard was a big fan of Hakim Ziyech,
Tuchel
may well still value Ziyech as part of his squad and that was evident in the
Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid last month.
However, former Holland
international Rene van der Gijp believes Ziyech will have to leave Stamford
Bridge this summer.
Van der Gijp was originally
happy to see Ziyech make the switch to west London last summer, but that was
only due to Lampard being in charge.
“It was a good choice when
Lampard was coach”, he told Veronica Inside.
“He was very enthusiastic about
him. Then another trainer arrives, and he wants to play a different game.
“He wants to have runners in
midfield instead of people like Ziyech.
“Then you have a problem… So
it’s best for him to leave.”
Ziyech was once again left on
the bench in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Porto on Wednesday night.
But the Blues are back in
action this weekend when they take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Chelsea dropped out of the top
four last weekend following their humiliating 5-2 defeat to West Brom.
But it’s tightly packed among
several teams vying for that final Champions League spot.
Chelsea are just one point
behind West Ham with Tottenham and Liverpool both two points behind Tuchel’s
side.
