Thomas Tuchel led Chelsea team were in action on Tuesday
night at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan against Portuguese Primeria Liga
giant, FC Porto in the second leg of the UEFA champions league quarter-finals
ties.
The host of the night suffered a late defeat in the game but
were through to the semi-finals of the competition for their first time ever
since 2014.
The game between the two sides was so intensed that there was
nothing to separate them at half time which ended goalless, and as such no shot
on target from either of the sides until the 65th minutes of the second half.
Chelsea
in the game of the night suffered their first defeat in the competition this
season and their first under the German tactician since taking over at the
club, having won all his previous three.
Chelsea
with their semi-finals qualification on a 2-1 aggregate means the Blues have now
reached the UEFA champions league semi-finals for the eighth time, more than
any other other English side in the competition’s history.
Most
semi-final appearances by English teams in the Champions League era:
◉ Chelsea (8)
◎ Man Utd (7)
◎ Liverpool (5)
◎ Arsenal (2)
◎ Man City (1)
◎ Spurs (1)
◎ Leeds (1)
Blue
is the colour.
With
this brilliant record for the Blues, European football governing body known as
UEFA has now reacted with a post via their verified twitter handle.
UEFA posted to commend the London club for reaching
the semi-finals for the eighth times, the most of any English side in the
history of the competition, as they showed a “muscle emoji” to laud the Thomas
Tuchel’s side for the great job well done.
Chelsea having booked a spot in
the semi-finals alongside French Ligue 1 champion, Paris Saint Germain, will be
looking forward to who to play next between Real Madrid and Liverpool in the
