Chelsea have a key advantage over the likes of Manchester United when it comes to the signing of Jadon Sancho as he is a boyhood Blues fan from childhood.
“Ronaldinho was the main guy I used
to watch on YouTube,” Sancho told the Independent during an interview in 2019.
“But I liked Frank Lampard quite
a lot and Didier Drogba when they were playing for Chelsea. They were the three
players I looked up to.”
Thomas Tuchel is said to be a
huge fan of the England International youngster and the club may try to sign
him before Euro 2020, with Dortmund hoping a successful tournament will push
his price tag even higher.
Sancho is regarded as one of the
best young talents in Europe and has been a long-time target for Manchester
United.
The prospect of the former Man
City starlet signing for the Red Devils dominated much of the 2020 summer
transfer window but in the end the club were not willing to match Dortmund’s
demands for almost £120million.
The fee required to secure his
services is likely to be less this year, though, considering the financial
climate clubs find themselves in due to the Coronavirus pandemic and because he
will have a year less on his contract, with his current deal coming to an end
in 2023.
According to the Daily Star,
Chelsea are ready to make an £80million offer for Sancho as they look to add
him to their roster of talented youngsters secured from Germany in the last 12
months.
