The Senegalese was subbed off early against Aston Villa after clashing with the woodwork
Edouard Mendy is
hopeful he returns to fitness ahead of their clash with Manchester City on
Saturday.
The former
Rennes goalkeeper has managed to become Chelsea’s preferred option for the goalpost
since his arrival in 2020.
With it just
being still his first season in the club, Edouard Mendy’s stats have ranked up
so much glory to his name and winning the UCL will seal his quality.
But it’s feared the 29-year-old could miss the final action
for the 2020/2021 UCL campaign when Chelsea lock horns with Pep Guardiola’s
side.
Chelsea have already beaten City twice and could be
bolstered for a three should they have Edouard Mendy back in the goalpost
during the night of 29th May.
Although Thomas Tuchel had hinted his boys have nothing to fear with Kepa ready to provide a good replacement for Mendy but the Spaniard’s records lately at the club only does nothing but increase the fears he could still, flaw at the wrong time.
Mendy is expected to return to fitness soon after a scan was carried out on him a day after clashing his ribs to the sidebar.
Tuchel
confirmed it wasn’t as bad as thought and he is already expecting his favorite
goal stopper back to action soon.
Ahead of
his return, Mendy was quizzed on his situation and how likey it’s for him to
return to action before the Man City game.
“It
wasn’t really as bad as I feared that day,” Mendy said of his injury.
“Am happy that I can train with the squad today
and believe I can be fit on Saturday.
“I am
sure the atmosphere will be great included with the songs, so I can’t wait to
finish this off and hopefully we can be crowned champions.
“We lost
the FA Cup and we know the pain of losing a final match now, I believe we can
bounce back against Manchester City.”
Both
Edouard Mendy and N’Golo Kante trained with the squad today.
