Gundogan believes it won’t be an easy task for both sides considering they have conceded fewer goals than usual in the current campaign
29th May will
decide who is Champion of the 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League season and City
midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan believes
it will be a matter of who cracks the hard defense lines.
Unlike in the
other years, Manchester City have
managed to concede fewer goals same goes for Chelsea who have
turned so strong defensively since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival.
Chelsea have
already beaten the Cityzens twice and are keen to repeat the feat when they
both face each other on Saturday.
Both City and Blues have conceded only four goals each in the current run making it the lowest goals conceded by finalists since 2006 and Gundogan believes the defense lines will play a greater role in deciding the winner.
“I feel this year a couple of crucial things changed for us,” Gundogan said.
“As an example, against Monaco a few years ago we conceded three goals at home.
“When Tottenham knocked us out we again conceded three goals at home.
“When we played Lyon we conceded three goals. And this year it seems that we are so stable in the back.
“We concede just a few goals and that helps us win even more.
“I feel we are very strong and stable and this is so important in the crucial moments, especially in the knockout stages and the big games.
But not just them as the last two encounters with Chelsea
have made Gundogan realize how strong the opponents backline has become.
“It is the same for Chelsea as well. They also seem stable at the back and concede only a few goals,” he continued.
“Maybe on Saturday it is going to be about who is able to deal better with a team that will defend on a very high level.”
