A report by The Sun (h/t Express) states that representatives of Barcelona star Lionel Messi have ‘put the feelers out’ to Chelsea and Manchester United over a possible transfer in the coming window.
Manchester
City have also been contacted by the Argentine’s camp. The Citizens have been
told that they could seal a transfer for Messi if they can pay him
£500,000-a-week.
Messi has
enjoyed a scintillating campaign at Barcelona where he has scored 34 times, but
a Camp Nou exit could be on the cards this summer.
Lionel
Messi is linked with a transfer move from Barcelona to Chelsea, Manchester
United, and Manchester City.
And City
refuse to rule out a move that could see them pay around £25million in wages to
Messi each year. The report adds that Roman Abramovich has ‘long dreamed of
signing Messi’.
Dare we
dream?
But it
also goes on to mention that the 33-year-old is more likely to stay at the end
of the season. Speaking recently about Messi leaving the Catalan club, manager
Ronald Koeman said he was ‘not concerned about it.
There is
no doubt about Messi’s abilities even at the age of 33. He continues to be at
the top of his game and it is undeniable that he will make Chelsea a
threatening side going forward.
Even if
the wages are high, the Blues could possibly make up for a decent chunk of it
by merchandise sales that would surely go through the roof if the 6-time Ballon
d’Or makes the journey to Stamford Bridge.
However,
it remains to be seen if Chelsea would formalize that interest and dish out so much
in wages.
