Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is eager to bring back Romelu Lukaku to Stamford Bridge this summer amid Inter Milan’s financial problems, according to Sunday World.
The 28-year-old played a huge part in helping Inter win their
first Serie A title in over a decade this season.
Under Antonio Conte, the Belgium international has scored 47
league goals in the last two seasons, including 24 goals in 2020/21.
Lukaku would have had very little reason to leave the club after
such a successful campaign in Italy if it was not for the club’s financial
problems.
On Wednesday, Inter surprisingly confirmed Conte’s departure
after reaching a mutual agreement.
According to Sunday World, the former Chelsea boss decided to
leave after the club decides to raise £80million from player sales with several
key players potentially leaving this summer.
Lukaku is reportedly one of them.
This could be an opportunity for Chelsea, who have reportedly
been monitoring the striker, to strike a deal.
The Sunday World claims that Chelsea owner Abramovich considers
Lukaku one of his favourite strikers and is prepared to invest heavily in the
transfer market to bring him back to the club.
The report further added that a fee of around £65m would be enough
to tempt Inter to sell the striker.

Chronicle view
It is pretty obvious at this point that Chelsea desperately need a
proven goalscorer to take them to the next level.
Tuchel has successfully deployed both Timo Werner and Kai Havertz
in the central forward role in the last few months, but the German pair have
only had 10 league goals combined this season.
Even the manager himself admitted that having Jorginho as their
top scorer in the league with seven penalty goals does not look good for the
team.
Would Lukaku solve all of Chelsea’s attacking problems? Probably
not. But he would certainly offer a goalscoring threat that they have lacked
this season.
