Chelsea has reportedly made contact with a striker who has previously earned high praise from Blues duo Timo Werner and Antonio Rudiger.
Robert
Lewandowski to Chelsea would seem to be a common signing among two of Thomas
Tuchel's squad members.
The
prolific Bayern Munich striker is the subject of the Blues' current transfer
rumor mill.
Chelsea,
according to Sky Sports Germany, has made contact with the Poland international
about a summer move in order to address their goal-scoring problems ahead of
next season.
Furthermore, the article claims that Blues head coach Tuchel is
open to bringing in a new attacking choice after losing confidence in the
team's current number nine.
Tammy Abraham and Lewandowski are among the names on the German
tactician's shortlist.
It
remains to be seen if the west London club will entice the 32-year-old to join
them at Stamford Bridge, but he will be the missing piece in Tuchel's attacking
puzzle.
Finding
the back of the net on a consistent basis has never been a problem for
Lewandowski, whether with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, or the Poland
national team.
This
season, he has 47 goals in 39 games across all competitions as Bayern wins the
Bundesliga for the ninth time in a row.
He has equaled the 49-year-old Bundesliga
record of legendary German striker Gerd Muller by playing 40 of the 47 games in
Germany's top flight.
With one game remaining, there's a good chance Lewandowski will
break the record before the 2020/21 season is finished.
Timo Werner, a current Chelsea forward, is acquainted with
Lewandowski from his time with RB Leipzig in Germany and knows firsthand how
dangerous the Pole is in front of goal.
"Unless
your name is Robert Lewandowski, you can't score every game," Werner joked
last year. "When I score two goals in Berlin and he scores two against
Dortmund, I wonder when he'll stop.
"At the moment, he's in the same league as Ronaldo and
Messi."
Although Werner's teammate and countryman Antonio Rudiger did not
go so far as to compare Lewandowski to Messi and Ronaldo, he did give the
striker the ultimate compliment.
"In
recent years, the strongest No.9s have been Mauro Icardi, Harry Kane, and
Robert Lewandowski. This season, Lewandowski seems to have improved even
further "Last season, Rudiger said this ahead of Chelsea's Champions
League last-16 match against Bayern Munich.
"I have a lot of admiration for him. It will be a difficult
task to keep him in place.
"We can only do it as a group."
