CHELSEA fans are suggesting that the English Premier League playmaker should be among the players the club would consider to join the manager, Thomas Tuchel in building solid squad for the club.
All Chelsea
eyes are focused on this weekend’s Champions League final against Manchester
City, which is the biggest game most players will ever have in their career.
Despite all
the excitement around Saturday’s final though, that’s not stopping the transfer
speculation from flying around now that the league season over.
Chelsea links continue to be in
full flow, but there is one non-Blues transfer story that has grabbed people’s
attention.
The Athletic reports
that Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers expect to offload their key
player Ruben Neves this summer, with a fee in the region of £35million expected
to be enough to secure his signature.
A selection of Chelsea fans on
Twitter have been all over this by suggesting the Blues should throw their name
into the hat for him.
Neves, 24, helped Wolves breeze
out of the Championship during his first year in English football during the
2017/18 season.
The £35million-rated central midfielder has since
impressed in the Premier League for three consecutive years, which is why his
young age may surprise people given he plays with such maturity on the pitch.
He’s a deep-lying central midfielder that does a lot
of great defensive work in front of the Wolves backline at Molineux, breaking
up play with interceptions and aggressive tackling.
However, on top of that, he’s got an extra touch of
guile and class with what he produces on the ball.
He’s a midfield playmaker that can spray passes
around for fun. The Portugal internatonal also scored five league goals this
season, and is a real threat from set-pieces.
It’s worth pointing out that working under teammate
and experienced veteran Joao Moutinho at Wolves has helped him significantly.
Some Chelsea fans believe the quoted £35million
valuation of Neves means he should be a target for the Stamford Bridge
hierarchy.
He’s very much built in a similar mould to Jorginho,
albeit he’s a bit more mobile, and he’s got the quality on the ball to make a
step up to an elite club.
Chelsea’s German manager Thomas Tuchel needs to get
past a Champions League final before he even thinks about transfer targets for
next season, but adding another quality midfield option could be a smart move
for the club.
If a bidding war does break out for Neves this
summer, it’ll be interesting to see how many of the Premier League’s elite
chase him.
He’s proven himself in recent years that he’s more
than capable of playing to a high standard in the Premier League, and he will
leave a major hole in the Wolves XI if he does depart.
One Chelsea supporter on social media has made the
bold comparison between the Wolves playmaker and Cesc Fabregas.
Spanish midfield maestro Fabregas, 34, was
influential in winning two Premier League titles during his time at Stamford
Bridge.
Neves needs to just improve his attacking output to
be put in the same sentence as Fabregas-esque.
