The 28 years old English striker has finally brought all the uncertainty surrounding his future to an end by releasing an official statement that confirms his intention to spend the 2021-2022 season at Tottenham Hotspur instead of pursuing a big-money move to Manchester City.
His intention
to stay is no doubt good news to the fans and coaching staff of his current
club but it could prove more beneficial to Chelsea in the long run, as it denies
their biggest rival for this season Premier League title an opportunity to
strengthen their squad.
Chelsea and
Manchester City are considered by most people as the favourites for this season
English Premier League trophy ahead of the likes of manchester united and
Liverpool. Both clubs have also identified the striking position as an area of
weakness in their squad, and they have been doing everything possible to bring
in their preferred target since the beginning of this summer transfer window.
The arrival of
Romelu Lukaku means Chelsea may have solved the only issue in their first-team
squad. Jules Kounde and Saul Niguez are reportedly set to arrive from Sevilla
and Atletico Madrid to further strengthen the squad.
Manchester
City, on the other hand, has only signed Jack Grealish for their first-team
squad and they are currently struggling to sign a striker. Harry Kane was their
preferred option to replace Sergio Aguero, and they will struggle to bring in
another target with few days to the end of the transfer window.
Chelsea will
automatically become the favourite for the title if Manchester City fails to
bring in a striker before the end of the month.
