Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell has been ruled out for the rest of the year due to an injury he picked during their recent clash with Juventus in the Champions League. He was in great form for the team this season as he was always scoring or assisting in each of the games he played.
Following his injury, Chelsea has been weighing in on their
options as Marcos Alonso remains the only senior player in that position since
Chilwell’s injury.
Though Saul can be convinced to play in the left wing-back
position as that was not his agreement with Chelsea before his signing for the
club.
From recent discovery, A lot of fans
has seen good potential in one of Chelsea youngster by name of Ian Maatsen who
is on loan at Coventry for the rest of the season.
He plays in the left-back and left wing-back position but
has also played at the right wing-back during his loan spell at Charlton.
Maatsen made his senior debut under Frank Lampard in 2018
against Grimsby Town in the FA cup competition. He was allowed to train with
the senior team under Thomas Tuchel before his loan move in July 202.
The youngster is known for his
long-range ball, attacking instincts and is also good at winning the ball back.
He has been exceptional for Coventry this season though he received a red card in
one of their derby matches this season.
That notwithstanding, the Chelsea board needs to reach out
on an agreement whether to get a new left-back or recall Ian Maatsen as a
backup for Marcos Alonso.
It would be a nice scenario to see the young lad get a
chance as Chelsea have proven to have one of the best academies in European
football
