Kepa Arrizibalaga has been used sparingly this season but despite not playing regularly, in our opinion he could be seen as Chelsea’s Best goalkeeper in history.
Kepa Arrizibalaga was signed by Chelsea as the world most
expensive goalkeeper and during his first season he actually show to his new
employers Chelsea, the reason they paid heavily for his service while making 70
appearances for the club.
Kepa Arrizibalaga was signed as a replacement for both
Petr Cech and Thibaut Cortois but despite being the world most expensive
goalkeeper, he has find game time quite difficult to come by since Thomas
Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard last season.
Kepa has spent just three season at Chelsea but has
broken Petr Cech and Chelsea all time goalkeeping record this season despite
being used sparingly.
The Spaniard has mostly featured in cup matches, like the FA
Cup, Carabao Cup and seldomly in the Premier League and also in the UEFA
Super Cup, however most of Kepa’s heroics has come from those Cup games. His
form in those games has been impeccable and despite losing his position to
Edouard Mendy, Kepa now holds the record for most penalty saves for any Chelsea
goalkeeper in history.
The hallmark of the world best goalkeepers is their ability
to give their best when been call upon and this has been the hallmark of Kepa’s
games.
Kepa first broke this record against Aston Villa in same
carabao cup and went further to increase the number of saves in the last game
against Southampton, on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge.
With that save against Southampton, Kepa now has eight shoot
out saves.
Kepa – seven shoot-out saves
Petr Cech – six saves
Kevin Hitchcock – four saves
Ed De Goey – two saves
Eddie Niedzwiecki – two saves
Willy Caballero – one save
Hilario – one save
Ross Turnbull – one save
This record Kepa has surpassed, despite not
playing regularly for Chelsea.
Every football player at a point in time, do have some bad
moments, even the all time great, but one thing that is notable with the world
best, is their ability to come back and regain their form and confidence, this
Kepa Arrizibalaga has successfully done with his recent performance.
In our opinion, Kepa Arizibalanga could
end up even surpassing any record he has achieved so far and can go on to
establish himself as Chelsea all time great, if given the chance to prove his
worth again.
Yes we celebrate Mendy’s performance but it was Kepa heroics
that won Chelsea the UEFA Super Cup, that made Chelsea to qualify for the
quarter final of the league cup and even last season it was his performance
that took Chelsea to the FA Cup final.
Kepa could indeed be the best goalkeeper Chelsea has ever had
