New Barcelona Manager, Xavi, Sends Clear Message to Thomas Over Three Player Transfers.
Barcelona are reportedly interested in trying to signing
Chelsea forward Timo Werner on loan in the January transfer window.
According to Marca,
Spanish giants Barcelona are looking at potential attacking targets ahead of
the next window.
It is understood
that their financial situation means signings may depend on departures, so the
arrival of a new striker could be on loan.
The report says that
Chelsea’s Werner is on the Barcelona shortlist and they’ve “closely” monitored
him during his time at Stamford Bridge. In addition, Manchester United’s
Edinson Cavani and Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling are also on their radar.
Werner
still a big player at Chelsea
German speedster
Werner is constantly under the spotlight in the media, with many critical of
the way his RB Leipzig form hasn’t been replicated in a Chelsea shirt since his
move to London last summer.
However, the
attacker was still pivotal in winning the Champions League and finishing fourth
last season.
He brings a new
dimension to Thomas Tuchel’s XI when he plays because he can stretch opponents,
and he creates so many opportunities.
Barcelona, who are
ninth in La Liga, desperately need quality in their squad. The fact they are
shortlisting Werner shows how highly rated he still is.
New
role for him?
Chelsea fans got a
glimpse of Werner in a front two alongside Romelu Lukaku before their
respective injuries. This is a fairly new combination that perhaps Tuchel will
look to unleash again at a later date.
For Werner, there
is so much to love about his game outside of some erratic finishing.
Joe Cole still
described him as a “fantastic” player in September. Meanwhile, ex-Blues
teammate Olivier Giroud was signing his praises last month.
