Thomas Tuchel Reacts To Chelsea’s Champions League Quarterfinal Draw

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has reacted to his team’s fixture in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal draw held today. The German tactician had his prematch conference shortly after the draws, ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup tie against Middlesbrough.

The Blues, who are the reigning Champions of Europe, were drawn against Real Madrid in the last eight of the UCL. And speaking to the press, Tuchel offered his thoughts on the draw:

Tuchel on drawing Real Madrid: “It’s a tough one. A challenge cannot be much higher than playing in the Bernabeu with spectators. There is also big excitement around this fixture”

Chelsea will face off against the Spanish giants and La Liga league leaders for the second time in two seasons in a repeat of last season’s semifinal clash against both sides. The Blues won 3-1 on aggregate, drawing 1-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu before claiming a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge. And history particularly favors Chelsea in this tie; the Blues have never lost a competitive game against Los Blancos, while Thomas Tuchel is also yet to lose a single against them in his managerial career, winning twice and drawing four times.

But for now, Tuchel’s utmost attention will be on the tricky tie against Championship side Middlesbrough’s in the FA Cup on Saturday. The Manager had some team news, and he confirmed that trio Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Andreas Christensen are all uncertain to play.
