Ben Chilwell was astonishing down that left flank for Chelsea. He participated in the two goals scored and was defensively solid throughout the game. Chelsea needed his speed and creativity and he delivered to the fullest against a pacey Dortmund side.
Havertz
— 9
This
was perhaps the best performance we've seen from Havertz in a long long time.
He was heavily involved in Sterling's goal and cooly converted his penalty for
the match-winner even though he had missed his earlier kick. The German
completed 3/3 dribbles, registered 2 key passes and made 2 tackles.
Koulibaly
— 8.5
This
was yet another defensive masterclass from Koulibaly. The Senegalese even
deserved a goal in the game in the first half. He saved Chelsea in the second
period with a last-gap block and was superb with his passing. Overall he made 3
tackles, 2/3 accurate long balls and won 4/4 of his ground duels.
Marc
Cucurella — 8
This
was a rare brilliant performance from Cucurella. After being dropped in the
last couple of games, the Spaniard responded to the pressure by performing
brilliantly against BVB. He carried the ball forward and made some brilliant
tackles to help out his team. Stats show he made 4 interceptions in the game.
Not
bad at all
Reece
James — 7.5
The
Englishman seemed fresh and robust in that right-wing back position. He didn't
click with Sterling in the first half but he settled into the game as it
progressed. James made one key pass, one tackle and 5 interceptions the most of
any Chelsea defender.
Kovacic
— 7
The
Croatian was just everywhere in the game helping Chelsea win the ball back in
midfield. He probably ran himself into the ground which explains his
substitution. Kova made two interceptions and four tackles in the game.
Raheem
Sterling — 6
Sterling deserves some credit for putting Chelsea on the front foot with his goal but he started the game ever so poorly. However, he did grow into the game and caused Dortmund plenty of problems with his movement.
Other players: Kepa - 8, Fofana and Enzo - 7.5, Felix - 5.5, Gallagher - 6, Pulisic - NR, Loftus-Cheek - NR.
