He has to play every week – Manchester United boss can’t believe Chelsea is benching this player in his prime

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag believes Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech should be playing every week because he is in his prime.

Ziyech was part of the thrilling Ajax side managed by Ten Hag that reached the semi-finals of the Champions League during the 2018-19 season, winning the Eredivisie the same year.

In 2020, Ziyech left Ajax for Chelsea and has struggled to replicate his Ajax form at Stamford Bridge. He has been limited to just nine starts for Chelsea this season.

The 30-year-old was on the brink of joining Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window only for the move to collapse at the last minute.

“He has to play every week,” Ten Hag said. “A footballer like that, in the prime of his life, must be on the pitch.”
