Madagascar will be a tough game for Black Stars – Chris Hughton

Head coach of the senior national team, Chris Hughton, says the game against Madagascar on Sunday, June 18. will not be an easy one for the Black Stars.

Ghana will take on Madagascar in the fifth round of matches as part of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers looking to secure qualification to the tournament.

With Angola beating Central African Republic earlier on Saturday, the Black Stars could book their place at the AFCON with all three points on Sunday.

However, Hughton believes the game will not be easy as many have predicted.

“We have to prepare for what we think will be a difficult game. One thing that I have learnt since I have been involved is that there are no easy games,” he said ahead of the game.

“Madagascar have had difficult group games so far but they want to do the very best they can in their last two games because they still have a possibility. So we are just preparing the heat we can for what we think will be a tough game.”

The 64-year-old also added that the bottom-placed team in Group have enough quality within their squad to upset the Black Stars hence the need to treat them with respect.

“We have big respect for the players. They have a lot of good players in their team and good technical players so as I said, we will treat them with a great respect and we expect a difficult game,” he continued.

“If we play to the best of our capabilities, then we know we can get the results. But this is football. We have trained hard this week and I know the players will be very prepared.

Ghana occupies the top spot in Group E and could go three points clear with a win against Madagascar with the game scheduled for a 14:00 GMT kickoff.
