Ghana winger Fatawu Issahaku has completed a move to former Premier League champions Leicester City from Sporting Lisbon, finalising a season-long loan deal.
The talented player struggled to secure a spot in Sporting Lisbon’s
first team, prompting his move to Leicester. He is now set to join Enzo
Maresca’s squad for the upcoming 2023/24 Sky Bet Championship season.
Expressing his excitement, Issahaku stated, “I’m so happy. This is an
amazing moment for me, I’m happy to be here. For me, from looking at Leicester
and how I felt about the coach, here is the best place for me. This was the
best moment for me to join Leicester. I chose them because I think they can
grow me and help me mature. [Enzo Maresca] told me about the plans he has for
me and how he wants me to play – how he wants to help me in my football.”
Issahaku rose to prominence when he was adjudged the best player during
Ghana’s victory in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Mauritania in
2021. His outstanding performances earned him a spot in the Black Stars, and he
continued to represent the team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
In addition, Issahaku was part of the
U-23 team for the Olympic Games qualifiers earlier this year, making three
appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco. This move to
Leicester City is seen as an important step in his career, as he seeks to
develop and mature under the guidance of Enzo Maresca.
