Major (rtd) Kwadwo Boakye Djan, a former member of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) has died at the age of 80.
Boakye Djan died on Wednesday morning (30 August) at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra after a short illness.
He was a Ghanaian military officer and political figure known for his involvement in Ghana’s political and military landscape.
Boakye Djan attended secondary school at Opoku Ware School
for his O Level and also attended Achimota School for his sixth form.

He joined the Ghana Armed
Forces and rose through the ranks, becoming a prominent figure within the
military.
He held various positions and became a Brigadier General,
gaining recognition for his leadership skills and influence.
Boakye Djan played a significant role in Ghana’s political
history during the 1970s and early 1980s.
In 1981, he was part of the group that orchestrated the
December 31 coup, which brought Rawlings to power for the second time. However,
Djan’s relationship with Rawlings would later deteriorate.
