Ben Abdallah
Banda, the immediate past Chairman of
the Parliamentary Select Committee on Legal and Constitutional
Affairs has chastised the National
Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Officer for
disrespecting and slandering Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.
Sammy Gyamfi’s comments,
according to the former Member of Parliament for Offinso South, are
unfortunate and incautious, and they indict the Speaker and the NDC Caucus
leadership in Parliament.
After the House voted to approve
all the nominees vetted for ministerial positions, the NDC Communications
Officer allegedly accused Mr. Alban Bagbin and
the NDC leadership of betraying their party on Facebook.
Ben Abdallah Banda said the NDC Communications Officer’s comments were
“extremely awful” in an interview on Yen Sempa on Onua FM on Wednesday, March 10.
As a result, he wants
Parliament’s leadership to invite Sammy Gyamfi to the Privileges
Committee so that he can back up his claims or retract his remarks.
He told host Kwame Tutu that Sammy Gyamfi’s remark
is an indictment of the Republic of Ghana’s entire legislature, and that it
requires a thorough investigation.
The former lawmaker wants the
Communications Officer for the largest opposition party to explain how he was
able to make such a statement against the Right Honorable Speaker and smear the
House’s reputation.
Ben Abdallah, on the other hand, clarified that he could not
tell Parliament what to do, but that it is only proper to investigate the
issues raised by Sammy Gyamfi and bring him to justice by forcing him
to apologize.
