Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has issued an injury update on
midfield maestro Mateo Kovacic ahead of Tuesday’s game against Real Madrid.
Mateo Kovacic picked up an injury in training prior to
Chelsea’s UCL quarter-final second leg clash against Porto.
The Blues will play the Spanish Giants away from home in the
first leg of the UEFA Champions League Semifinal, and Mateo Kovacic is the
only Chelsea player who will be out of the squad due to injury.
Thomas Tuchel
confirmed this while speaking to the club’s official website, as he revealed
the Croatian won’t be fit enough to face Madrid but could possibly make a
return against Fulham at the weekend.
“At the moment, we’re
suffering a bit with our two number sixes because of the injury for Mateo,’
explained Tuchel after our victory at West Ham.” Tuchel said while speaking to
the club’s official website.
“Hopefully he can come
back against Fulham but he did not train with the team yet so I think that Tuesday
will be too early, unfortunately. He was so happy to play against his former
team-mates and he is a crucial player for us.
“He could have helped
a lot in the last games against Brighton and West Ham with his technique and
his ball runs but it’s like this. The team is doing an amazing job and we have
to keep on going.” He concluded.
