Manchester United increasingly
confident over Raphael Varane transfer but want Real Madrid to lower £60m
asking price
Manchester United have been given
‘encouragement’ that Raphael Varane wants to join the club this summer but the
Red Devils need Real Madrid to lower their £60m asking price for the defender.
The France international was hours away from joining United from
Lens in 2011 before Sir Alex Ferguson’s move for the centre-back was hijacked
by Zinedine Zidane, who was asked to speak to Varane by Real’s hierarchy.
Varane’s choice to move to the Bernabeu was an inspired one,
with the defender winning the Champions League on four occasions during his
ten-year stint in the Spanish capital.
But the defender is now keen for a fresh challenge and United
have been given encouragement that he wants to move to Old Trafford, according
to the Daily Mail.
Varane has a year left on his deal at the Bernabeu and with
little sign that he’s receptive to signing an extension, the club will have no
option but to sell this summer in order to avoid losing him for free in 2022.
With that in mind, Madrid hope to raise as much as £60m through
the sale of the France international this summer.
But United have been heavily affected by the coronavirus
pandemic and the club had budgeted for this summer on the basis that fans would
return to Old Trafford this season – which of course did not materialise.

Barcelona Consider Re-Signing
Mateu Morey
Barcelona are reportedly
considering the possibility of re-signing former academy man Mateu Morey from
German giants Borussia Dortmund.
According to a report from Spanish publication Fichajes,
Barcelona are mulling over a potential deal that would see former defender
Mateu Morey return to the club from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
Morey, 21, started out at the Mallorca academy before making the
switch to Barcelona’s youth setup in 2015. The young right-back spent four
years on the Catalan club’s books but left for Borussia Dortmund in the summer
of 2019 on a free transfer.
Having initially linked up with the Borussia Dortmund II side,
Morey has become more of a regular for the first-team this season, with 21 of
his 26 senior appearances for the Black and Yellows coming in 2020/21, in which
the right-back has managed to deliver a couple of assists.
Morey’s gradual development at the Signal Iduna Park has now
caught the attention of former employers Barcelona, who are considering the
possibility of bringing him back to Camp Nou.
The right-back position has been a problem for Barcelona ever
since Dani Alves decided to move on. Nelson Semedo was brought in, but the
Portuguese underwhelmed for the most part before departing last summer,
following the arrival of Sergino Dest. The USMNT international has had an up
and down debut season so far in Catalonia, leading to the club considering
signing another player for the position.

Manchester United lead race for
Aston Villa star
According to Football
Insider, Manchester United lead the clubs interested in Aston Villa star
Emiliano Martinez, with a Villains source admitting the club are expecting a
‘monster’ summer offer for the ace.
This comes after Football Insider reported that the Argentine
graduate of rivals Arsenal tops the Red Devils’ goalkeeper shopping list.
The 28-year-old has been solid between the sticks after taking
the difficult but right decision to leave Arsenal after a decade at the club
for an initial fee of £17m in a deal rising to a potential £20m.
Football Insider add that United have been keeping a close eye
on the man bound to win a senior cap for Argentina when international football
for South American nations returns.
It’s claimed that United plan to recruit two senior goalkeepers
in the summer transfer window, they intend to keep academy graduate Dean
Henderson but move on David de Gea and Sergio Romero.
Martinez will be a sure-fire contender to be named as the
stopper in the PFA’s Team of the Year and all other honours of its nature after
a remarkable debut campaign with the Villains.

Haaland’s developments over the last few months in preparation for launching a

with Portuguese outfit, FC Porto in the second-leg of their quarter-final the showdown this evening is believed to be a big fan of the Norwegian’s talents
and is keen on adding him to his attacking ranks ahead of next season.
But Chelsea are not alone in hoping to secure the striker’s
signature. A variety of clubs from right across Europe, including Manchester
City, Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid, are all keen on laying
their hands on the attacker.
Raiola has confirmed that Dortmund have no intentions to sell
their star man this summer, despite knowing that the release clause within his contract comes into effect in the summer of 2022, potentially meaning that they
could earn more money for him by selling him this summer as opposed to next

on joining either City or Madrid, leaving Chelsea and his other admirers to
look elsewhere in their search for a striker.
