Even though Spanish TV show El Chiringuito de Jugones is well known for breaking big transfer stories, they now come up to dismiss a rumour which has been out in the local media.
Cesar Azpilicueta’s contract with Chelsea expires at the end
of the season, and for that reason, it’s been said that he could join Barcelona
for free next summer.
So Eduardo Inda now comes up to say
that move isn’t happening, simply because the Blues won’t allow that.
The journalist says Chelsea have a unilateral option to
extend Azpilicueta’s contract for one year. It’s said they will trigger that
and keep him as their captain.
Inda adds that in that case, he believes there’s ‘no chance’
that Azpilicueta could move to Barça, probably because it means the Catalan
side would need to pay a fee for the move.
Despite being benched in Chelsea’s last
games in the Premier League, the Spaniard was a starter and captain in all of
their Champions League matches this season, as a clear sign that Thomas Tuchel
still counts on him.
