In recent transfer windows, Borussia
Monchengladbach’s star, Jonas Hofmann, has been linked with a move to Chelsea.
When it comes to Chelsea, the most apparent player to compare Hofmann to is
club captain Cesar Azpilicueta, who has been with the club since arriving from
Marseille in 2012.
Despite the inherent instability of several head coaches
changing styles and formations, Azpilicueta has remained an essential component
in Chelsea’s squads.
Few players have contributed as much value as the
32-year-old, the current club captain, and a strong advocate for Chelsea on and
off the pitch.
Hofmann might provide a less expensive option to Chelsea’s
pursuit of Jules Kounde, a more experienced defender, with Sevilla’s sports
director Monchi reaffirming his position that Sevilla would not sell
22-year-old for less than his €85 million release clause.
Under Tuchel, Hofmann might be an
excellent rotational option for Reece James at right-back or wing-back, with
the academy star set to remain the assured starter in that position for many
years to come due to his great skill and age.
Hofmann has also been a reliable contributor in the final third, scoring four goals in ten games this season and adding eight goals and 13 assists in 33 appearances last season.
