Ruben Loftus-Cheek has claimed that his teammate is someone who’s always talking on the pitch. The midfielder has revealed that Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is a huge vocal presence within the team.
Mendy, who moved to Stamford Bridge from Rennes last summer, has
become a household name in a little under 18 months.
The
29-year-old shot-stopper is a colossus in the Blues net that was part of the
group that won the Champions League final last season. However, he’s arguably
taken his game up another level again during his second campaign in London.
Mendy already has nine clean sheets in his 15 appearances this
season for the Blues. Overall, his phenomenal record in a Chelsea shirt is 34
clean sheets in 59 games.
He’s
become renowned for his athletic saves and commanding aerial presence
in-between the sticks. But, Loftus-Cheek has given an insight into the Chelsea
number one by saying he’s extremely loud talking in matches.
Loftus-Cheek told Stadium Astro: “He’s been fantastic for us this season. Some of the saves he’s made have given us three points, and that’s all you can ask from a keeper. The communication from him on the pitch, you probably don’t hear that from watching on TV and in the stands, but he’s always communicating with us players and making sure everyone is in the right positions.”
For Chelsea, they’ve struck gold with the signing of Mendy. He makes the defence in front of him feel safe and it’s the hallmark of a great goalkeeper that he’s brave enough to be extremely vocal.
