CHELSEA have continued to be linked with signing Barcelona star boy as Tuchel keen on boosting his squad ahead of the new year.
Over the course of the last few years, Barcelona have been
infamous for their poor decision-making in the transfer market. Too often they
made over expensive transfers for players who did not fit their tactical
profile.
With Sergino Dest, Barca finally seemed to be on the right
track, but as per a report relayed by Daily Mail, Chelsea are interested in
acquiring his services for €30 Million.
Dest
was expected to be among Barcelona’s most important players this season,
despite the departure of Ronald Koeman. Having arrived from Ajax Amsterdam, a
club with similar values and playing style, perhaps no better move could have
been made by the Catalan club. This season he has already recorded three
assists, however the club wants more than just numbers.
Well,
fairly recently Xavi Hernandez stated that some players simply do not
understand what he wants in his style. It is believed that given his relative
inexperience in first team football at Barca or Ajax, Dest does not have what
is required to succeed. For this Xavi Hernandez believes parting ways would be
the best move going forward.
Chelsea
are building a team and attempting to make it future proof. As such the youth
of Sergino Dest could be pivotal, as he additionally has the potential to be
among the world’s best.
The
European champions are not alone in their endeavours. Bayern Munich, a club
which wanted to buy him as recently as 2020 are also hot on his tail.
Dest
has struggled to stamp his ground fully at Barcelona. Granted he is a young
footballer, he essentially had the whole right-back spot to himself.
Nevertheless
through injury and inconsistency, he at times fell to third in the pecking
order behind a central midfielder and centre back no less. As such, they feel
that the best thing would be to part ways with him and seek the services
of anotherright-back soon enough.
So far the name of Noussair Mazraoui has been mentioned. The
Moroccan has been touted as a possible replacement and a number believe that he
would be an upgrade to his American counterpart.
Further, this also
gives Joan Laporta and co. have a chance to make a significant profit. Mazraoui
is available for free in June 2022 and those €30 million (or more) could go a
long way in improving the team.
